Team building in Delft: five ideas, from an afternoon to a full day
· by Robin Lenskens · Updated
When looking for team building ideas in Delft, start with how much time you have, and then think about what your team enjoys. If you have an afternoon or an evening of two to three hours, a city quiz is the shortest and most affordable outing: The Delft Challenge takes 2.5 hours and costs €37 per person. If you want to eat together, the Walking Lunch (€79, 3.5 hours) and the Walking Dinner (€99, 4 hours) are the outings built around a shared meal: three courses at three restaurants, with a walk in between. For a full day there is Delft at its Best, with a city walk, a canal cruise, lunch and Royal Delft for €98. All prices are per person and include 21% VAT.
This overview is based on what companies actually book with us. Most team outings in Delft share the same building blocks: something to eat and drink, a walk through the old town, and something the group does together. What differs is the order and how long it all takes.
Which team building idea suits your group?
| Outing | Duration | Group size | Price p.p. | Food and drink | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Delft Challenge | 2.5 hours | any size, minimum €555 | €37 | a drink at the finish | teams that enjoy a bit of competition |
| Walking Lunch | 3.5 hours | 5 to 80 | €79 | 3-course lunch, 3 drinks | a daytime outing, attached to a working day |
| Walking Dinner | 4 hours | 5 to 80 | €99 | 3-course dinner, 3 drinks | a night out, getting to know each other better |
| Meet the Legends | 4 hours | from 10 | €90 | a light meal with a drink | teams that want something other than a guided tour |
| Delft at its Best | about 7 hours | from 11 | €98 | coffee, lunch with a drink | a full team day |
1. A city quiz: The Delft Challenge
Your group is split into teams and follows a guide through the old town. At each stop (a canal, the Markt, a church tower, a hidden corner), the teams get questions about what they see around them. After two and a half hours there is a winner, a toast and a drink for everyone.
The questions range from easy ones you can work out by looking around carefully to genuinely tricky ones later on the route, so it stays fun both for people who know nothing about history and for the enthusiasts. The best part happens beforehand: you can send us a handful of your own questions, about the company, an inside joke or the new colleague, and we mix them into the route. Large groups are no problem, because all teams play at the same time. For larger bookings we add a second guide, so no team has to wait between stops.
The price is €37 per person, with a minimum of €555 per booking. A prize for the winning team or Dutch bar snacks can be added on request. The Challenge starts at the statue of Hugo Grotius on the Markt, but you can also choose your own starting point anywhere in the centre.
2. Lunch together: the Walking Lunch
Three courses at three restaurants in historic buildings, with a guided walk between each course. You choose a start time between 10:30 and 13:30. If you start at 11:30, you have your starter on the Markt and finish with dessert around 15:30. Each course comes with a drink of your choice.
This is the outing for teams that would rather head home in the evening, or that combine it with a morning of meetings. €79 per adult, from 5 people.
3. The night out: the Walking Dinner
The same format as the lunch, but in the evening and with a full dinner. You choose a start time between 17:00 and 19:00, have your starter at one restaurant, walk with the guide to the next for the main course, and finish at dessert. Because you get up after every course and sit down somewhere new, you talk to far more colleagues in one evening than you would at one long table.
€99 per adult, bookable online for groups of 5 to 80 people; for a larger group we arrange it on request. Our explainer what is a walking dinner describes exactly how such an evening goes.

4. A theatrical city walk: Meet the Legends
A four-hour theatrical city walk in which Delft’s best-known figures lead your group around, in costume and fully in character: William of Orange, the Girl with a Pearl Earring and Hugo Grotius. Along the way you visit the Oude Kerk and the Nieuwe Kerk, and halfway through there is a light meal with a drink. Afterwards you can add a tasting of beers from Delft brewers, for €25 per person.
This works well for teams that have already done an ordinary guided tour and want something that feels more like a performance. Meet the Legends costs €90 per person, from 10 people.

5. A full day: Delft at its Best
This is a full team day of about seven hours. You start with coffee or tea and a private guided city walk, followed by a Dutch “12 uurtje” lunch with a drink, before boarding a boat for a canal cruise. The boat drops you off close to Royal Delft, where a guide takes you through the museum and the factory, where Delft Blue is still painted by hand. If you want to paint a tile yourself, the Delft Blue painting workshop can be added for €35 per person.
Delft at its Best costs €98 per person, from 11 people. It is a set package, but you can swap elements or shift times.

How much does a team outing in Delft cost?
Multiply the price per person by the number of participants. Two examples, all amounts including 21% VAT:
| Outing | 12 people | 25 people |
|---|---|---|
| The Delft Challenge | €555 (minimum) | €925 |
| Walking Lunch | €948 | €1,975 |
| Meet the Legends | €1,080 | €2,250 |
| Delft at its Best | €1,176 | €2,450 |
| Walking Dinner | €1,188 | €2,475 |
With the lunch, the dinner, Meet the Legends and Delft at its Best, food and drink are included in the price. With The Delft Challenge it is only a drink at the finish, so you may want to add a lunch or dinner. A tip for the guide is not included anywhere and is never expected in the Netherlands.
How do you choose the right team building activity?
Above all, think about what you want your team to have done by the end.
- Get to know each other better, for example with new colleagues or a team that has just merged: choose a Walking Dinner or Walking Lunch. Changing tables does the work.
- Do something together with a bit of competition: The Delft Challenge. Teams have to put their heads together, and your own questions make it personal.
- Experience something new: Meet the Legends.
- A real day away from the office: Delft at its Best.
- A small budget or little time: The Delft Challenge, perhaps followed by drinks you arrange yourselves.
